On 25th April, Big Ted and I had the pleasure of visiting Liberty of Havering Lodge No. 1437 at Upminster for what turned out to be a truly special and memorable evening.
We were invited to witness the Initiation of Bros. Matthew Byrne and Mark Coker, and in honour of Big Ted’s presence, the Brethren even chose to wear dress regalia—a delightful touch that added to the occasion! 😁
The ceremony itself was superbly conducted by the Worshipful Master, W.Bro Harry Lockwood, and his team of officers. Their preparation, delivery, and warmth created a perfect environment for two new Freemasons to begin their journey.
Following the meeting, I was honoured to be presented with a £500 cheque for the TLC Essex Appeal—a generous donation from the Lodge in support of our mission to bring comfort to children in crisis.
But the evening held one more surprise.
The Lodge Almoner, W.Bro Tony Matthews, then rose and announced a personal donation of £500, given in the name of the Lodge. His generosity was particularly moving, as his own family had recently experienced the comfort of a TLC Teddy first-hand.
This heartfelt gesture brought Liberty of Havering Lodge’s total to £1,000, instantly making them Bronze Patrons of the Appeal.
Thank you, Brethren, for your generosity, hospitality, and heartfelt support. You’ve made a real difference—one teddy, one child, one moment at a time.
