Recently, Big Ted and I ventured just over the border into the north of the Province to visit Manor of Newland Lodge No. 6403, which meets in Witham — and what a fantastic evening it turned out to be.
The Lodge welcomed a new Candidate, Bro Barry Payze, and it was a real pleasure to witness a superb Initiation Ceremony delivered by the Worshipful Master, W.Bro David Wall, PAGDC, who was expertly supported by his officers. The ceremony was conducted with great care, precision, and obvious pride, making it a memorable occasion for everyone present.
Following the meeting, the brethren enjoyed a wonderful Burns Night–themed festive board, complete with bagpipes and the traditional haggis. It was a brilliant way to round off an excellent evening, filled with warmth, fellowship, and good humour.
The Lodge also showed fantastic generosity towards the TLC Essex Teddies Appeal, presenting a donation of £500 in support of the charity. This amount is enough to help keep one hospital supplied with TLC Teddies for around a month, ensuring that doctors and nurses have comforting teddy bears available for children during difficult or distressing moments.
The generosity continued during the evening when the Worshipful Master auctioned a 25-inch TLC Teddy, raising a further £50 for the appeal — and thank you to the brother who kindly took the bear home!
It was truly a wonderful evening combining ceremony, fellowship, and charity.
My sincere thanks to the brethren of Manor of Newland Lodge for their kindness and support.
