At TLC Essex, we are constantly inspired by the creativity and generosity of our supporters—but few stories are as heartwarming (and hair-raising!) as that of Bro. Ki Fenton Ellwood of Holland-on-Sea Lodge No. 6639.
Initiated on 14th February 2024, Bro. Ki quickly embraced Freemasonry’s values of charity and compassion. Just one year later, he decided to make a bold gesture in support of the TLC Essex Appeal—by shaving off his beloved beard to raise funds for the cause.
On Saturday 17th May 2025, in front of friends, family, and brethren at the Old Lifeboat House in Clacton, the beard came off—and the donations rolled in. Thanks to Ki’s dedication and the generosity of his supporters, an incredible £1,431 was raised. Sales of TLC Teddies and lapel pins at the event added a further £169, bringing the grand total to £1,600!
W.Bro Simon Rollings, our TLC Centre Rep for Clacton, was on hand to present Bro. Ki with a personal Bronze Patron Certificate in recognition of his fundraising success and commitment to the appeal.
Thank you, Bro. Ki, for your bravery, your generosity, and your fantastic effort—and a huge thank you to everyone who supported him on the day. Your contributions will help bring comfort to many children across Essex during difficult times.
Now clean-shaven, Bro. Ki has truly shown that a little sacrifice can go a long way.
